Towards Sustainable Communities

Controversial Wexford-born developer Mick Wallace will be a guest speaker at the annual conference of the Irish Planning Institute (IPI) which takes place in Kilkenny on Thursday, April 19th and Friday, 20th.

The theme of the conference is “Towards Sustainable Urban & Rural Communities” and Mr Wallace – developer of the “Italian Quarter” in Dublin’s city centre – will give the developer’s point of view.  Architect and TV presenter, Duncan Stewart, will speak on Sustainable Transport and Planning.

The conference – which will be attended by planners working in the public and private sectors – will be opened by the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr Dick Roche, and will hear a keynote address from IPI President, Mr Henk van der Kamp.

Amongst other speakers will be Prof Kevin Leyden, West Virginia University;  Kevin Thompstone, Chief Executive, Shannon Development;  Kevin O’Rourke, Head of Built Environment, Sustainable Energy Ireland;  and Michael Starrett, Chief Executive, The Heritage Council.
